Mental Health Court

Start Date:
2024
Description:
The Wood County Mental Health Treatment Court is a collaborative program initiated by Wood County Human Services and Wood County Circuit Courts in fall of 2024. The mission of the Wood County Mental Health Court is to increase public safety and improve access to mental health services through effective treatment and intensive court supervision. This program is currently funded through a local (to South Wood County) grant source and therefore is not yet a county wide program. The Wood County Mental Health Treatment Court provides a multidisciplinary team approach, intensive probation supervision, one-on-one case management, judicial reviews, mental health treatment, medication monitoring, drug and alcohol testing, connection to community resources, and motivation through incentives and sanctions. The initial design of this program was to focus on high-risk and high-need individuals whose criminal justice involvement coincided with a serious and persistent mental illness. By increasing participation in evidence-based treatment, and providing support in the community, the goal of this program is to reduce corrections related costs and recidivism by addressing underlying mental health needs. This program is still being piloted, and is thus subject to change based off of what is determined to be of most value to the community and the groups targeted participant population. It is very possible that the target population and the nature of the program could change in 2026 based off identified needs.
