Pre-charge Diversion Program

Bayfield County's Pre-Charge Diversion Program is a community-based alternative to the formal court process. The Pre-Charge Diversion Program is designed for first-time and low-risk non-violent offenders who want to change their behavior, be accountable and are motivated to restoring their victim by prompt payment of restitution. Program components include: Agreeing to a pre-trial risk assessment/screen; Signing a Deferred Prosecution Agreement (DPA) and Participant Contract; Fulfilling all required components of the DPA; and may range in length from 6 months to 2 years. Successful completion of the DPA may result in criminal charge(s) being diverted and avoiding a criminal record upon completion.
