Post-charge Diversion and Deferred Prosecution Program

Description:
The Trempealeau County Diversion Program provides eligible participants an opportunity to avoid the formal criminal court process following a guilty or no contest plea. Entry of a Judgment of Conviction is postponed while the individual works to complete the terms of a Diversion Agreement. Under this agreement, participants must comply with conditions set by the Diversion Agreement Coordinator, which may include counseling, community service, completion of educational programs, or restitution. Upon successful completion, the District Attorney will move to dismiss the charge to which the participant originally pled guilty, allowing the individual to avoid a criminal conviction on their record.
