Overdoses are ravaging the United States, and data from the CDC indicates that overdose fatalities have even contributed to a drop in life expectancy for males under the age of 50. While the world is struggling to contain a global pandemic, the fight against opioid addiction and fatalities continues with even more challenges. In fact, people currently struggling with addictions and mental health problems are now forced to isolate themselves, increasing the conditions that lead to their overdose and death.
The ODMAP tool, supported by the Baltimore Washington HIDTA, is an effective resource recently developed to help law enforcement and public health professionals understand the impacts of this epidemic and how to plan a response. This Web-based application provides a data repository and geographical analysis tool that not only depicts hot spots for users addressing these problems, but also collects public health and law enforcement data for use by analysts working with partners to develop response initiatives.
ODMAP provides an easy-to-use interface and a set of effective analytical tools and allows jurisdictions to establish “spike alerts” so that immediate responses can be launched based on sharp increases in incidents. This webinar will overview ODMAP, review a case study of an agency that has been using ODMAP for several years, and show analysts the capabilities within ODMAP to support their missions. It will also provide guidance to prospective users on how to get started with ODMAP.
